The Black Economic and  Wellness Coalition of Akron's (BEWCA) primary goal is to develop and leverage its philanthropic network to make funding opportunities possible for its Coalition Partners and provide administrative oversight of the collective work.

Our Mission

The mission of BEWCA is to restore the Black Community of Summit County in general and Akron, Ohio specifically to an equitable, sustainable, self-sufficient, and self-governing position. This mission will be accomplished by adopting a shared community vision, embracing the principles of The Nguzo Saba, and adoption of the Akron Leadership Covenant.

Data Driven Decision Making
Our approach utilizes reliable data to guide and support organizational choices, strategies, and actions. Our data-driven approach relies heavily on objective data analysis and metrics to determine the best course of action. Our data-informed combines with human experience, intuition, and contextual understanding to make balanced, well-rounded decisions. Our decision-making method ensures that the collective work strategies are rooted in evidence, improving equitable outcomes, accountability and long term sustainability.
 

Collective Work 

 
The “BEWCA Way” utilizes Harambe Circles to engage our Coalition Partners and community allies in deliberative dialogue. The work is to develop a collective response and plan of action to address and resolve focused issues / priorities for the betterment of the Black community. 

Collective Plan

 
Black-owned and Black led businesses and nonprofits, join together as Coalition Partners. They align with a shared mission to create an agreed upon plan and budget. Data driven decision making is used to address the social determinants of health disparities toward impactful change.

Collective Budget

 
A financial plan developed by the Coalition Partners outlines anticipated revenues and expenditures of an Initiative’s collective plan.
